Zoo Palast: A Cinema with Charm

The Zoo Palast in Berlin is a traditional cinema with impressive architecture, located right next to the Zoological Garden and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. The comfortable reclining seats and small pre-film performances make the experience special. While the prices are a bit higher, the unique atmosphere is well worth the visit. Gladiator was amazing

I wanted to share how disappointing our last visit to the cinema was. There were two of us, and we spent around 50 euros between tickets (13 euros each) and food. Despite the high prices, the movie Gladiator II started 30 minutes later because we were bombarded with commercials (not trailers of other movies) beforehand.

I don’t think it’s fair to pay that much only to spend half an hour watching ads. I hope you can reduce the amount of advertising to make the experience more enjoyable.

Searched for a movie theater in Berlin and found this place which luckily had some of the pop movies in English as well. Went there for the for the authentic atmosphere. We had a movie session on one of the smaller rooms which had a library and a bar in it! And when the movie started the curtains went to sides. It gave us the true movie watching experience like it was for us only.

It’s a beautiful cinema with comfortable seats, but I do not recommend going to Saal 1 if you enjoy watching movies with good sound. I watched Wicked once in IMAX and enjoyed the soundtrack so much that decided to visit Zoopalast to watch it again with Dolby Atmos sound system. Unfortunately, the cinema is not well equipped for Dolby Atmos: the Saal is not properly treated acoustically. For every word sad on screen, you can hear reverb going around the room. The balance is also incorrect. You can hear the voices and sound effects well, but the music track is very quiet in comparison, sounding compressed and dull. If you want to watch movies with realistic high-quality sound, choose IMAX instead.

I went to watch a movie in those small rooms that looked like a living room with many books.
It was the coolest experience. Honestly, it’s my favorite cinema from now on.
Strong recommend. Besides that, a person is taking your orders in your seat before the movie starts.

The seats, screen and general look & feel are great! Only thing that needs improvement is the popcorn… not big enough, not salty enough, and the worst part – some sweet popcorn falls and mixes in the salty bucket! 🙁 other than the popcorn – it’s the BEST cinema I’ve been to in my life, even better than in the US.

The theater offers comfortable seating in intimate viewing rooms. Snack selections are somewhat limited, consistent with other German cinemas; however, expanding the menu would be a welcome improvement. A wide range of payment cards is accepted. Furthermore, films are shown in their original language versions.

My review was apparently deleted so here it is again. And I will keep posting EVERYDAY.

If I could give this cinema 0 stars, I would. Someone tried to rob my while watching a movie. It was almost empty and I was sitting in the last row (so basically no seats behind me but a bit of space between the seats and the wall). Suddenly I see an arm from behind my seat trying to pull my bag. I caught the guy and asked my husband to watch him while I get security to help. To my surprise, there were no security personnel! And the staff refused to help, saying they can’t do anything. The thief managed to escape and I saw him while he was walking out the cinema calmly and saying “you can’t touch me”, clearly this wasn’t his first time. I tried to chase him but he ran, while the staff were watching and not doing a thing. And to my surprise, again, apparently the security cameras aren’t turned on in the whole building!

There’s no way I’m going again to this cinema as I definitely don’t feel safe there anymore.

WARNING! No security whatsoever: no cameras and no security personnel. Anyone can buy a ticket and just stay in the cinema to do whatever they want. We were about to get robbed. A guy sneaked into one of the halls we were in, we were sitting at the last row. He tried to steal my wife’s bag before she could notice his hand. We confronted him and as we were trying to get security, turns out there were none. We told the personnel to call the police since there were cameras, but turns out they don’t turn them on. The workers could do nothing; the guy walked out of the door casually and then started running. The police didn’t bother to come because nobody was detained. Had I known that there were no security and no cameras, I would have detained him myself. After this horrible experience, the cinema did nothing at all! How can an establishment like that not care about its guests’ safety is beyond me. It’s a pitty since the cinema itself is good, but your safety is way more important.

Nice, comfy seats and friendly staff.
However, we were slightly taken aback that we had to put our bags and backpacks with our valuables into some lockers in the lobby that did not seem to be particularly well secured. We were told this is due to fire security reasons, but I’ve never seen this or heard of this in any other cinema (neither in this one until now) before. Anyway, if you’re going here, make sure that you can store all your valuables and keys in your pockets.

Short Title: The best cinema in town. They have more shows for english (OV) audience. They also have the option of premium seats which are really comfortable (mostly in the first week of the release for OV). The staff is really friendly. You also can get good snack deals with souvenirs. The location is also quite nice as it is just 3 mins walk away from Sbahn. The toilets were also quite neat and clean. They also have a loyalty program with their free membership card. I would definitely recommend this cinema for English speaking audience.

Most tranquil place in busy Alexanderplatz ! I love how they have great number Original languages film each months (i hate when films are dubbed) , this one of my favorite in Berlin because so close to public transport, from tram , subway to trains. Despite of hype and busy streets of Alexanderplatz this is just like an Oase in tranquility. The ambiance is good and we can booking the ticket on line so everything just smooth.

Overall, we had a good time. It was quite nice that the English movie did not have any subtitles so we could completely watch it in its original version. However, the staff here were quite rude and snippy and the theatre itself could use a good clean. Popcorn littered the stairs and floor. Other than that, it was an enjoyable experience.

If a tall guy sits in front of you, you can forget having a nice watching experience. The seat arrangements are like that. I have visited fairly large amount of movie theaters back in India and in many cities in Europe. This one was kind of most mediocre theater experience I had and sadly it’s in capital city of Germany. The seat handles are made of hard and rough plastic that if you have half sleeve shirt, and if you rub your hand couple of times on these handles, probably your hands will start to bleed. I may be exaggerating but as I said, it was hard plastic. Not a good experience. 10/10 I wouldn’t choose this movie theater another time. Oh and the sound quality was worse. Some sounds during fight scenes were too loud and dialogues were so quiet. It was like same effect when you play a 5.1 movie in a TV with stereo speakers where your Audio channels gets messed up and same effect happens. You are better off watching in TV when movie releases in OTT or in a different theater.

A very sad experience. To watch the film in original version (OV) they give you a mediocre hall (hall 5) with questionable sound system and 2 bright emergency exit lights during whole film (see picture) which are super annoying during the whole film, specially in the dark scenes. Also, the hall is designed with the visible exit doors (if someone exits for WC the whole hall brightens from the outside lights). Most of the seat armrest leather is cracked, one seat armrest was broken. The hall with German dub is very big with a huge screen, seemed better. The hall for English version was quite packed while the German dub seemed very empty. The only good thing is that you can easily cancel tickets before going which I regret I didn’t do. Don’t go (to hall 5 or other small halls) if you want a quality cinema experience. Total rip off.

This is a nice movie theater. It is certainly not overly crowded with teens running amok. I noticed that the arcade games were removed at some point.
They have very comfortable seats with plenty of cushion and the best part is that they recline. The seats give you plenty of room and of course include cup holders. This theater is reasonably priced.
I think they keep overhead down by running this place with a very small work crew/staff.
Last time we went here, we were the last theater to empty out and the lobby was dimly lit. We didn’t see any staff members and there were only a few cars left in the parking lot as we stayed inside and waited until all the credits were shown in case there was some sort of hidden footage like they do in many (Marvel/DC) movies these days.
Overall, this is one of my favorite movie theaters. It is close to my house and the theaters are relatively cozy.

Nicely accessible! About half a dozen accessible parking spots on either side of the main entrance with nearby ramps up to the sidewalk. Front doors are NOT powered though. Soda machines have buttons below the drink dispenser for people who can’t reach the screen, but all the machines are super laggy regardless of operation mode. Wheelchair seats in the theater have a good view and are within a row containing regular seats for disabled guests to sit with their friends and family and are marked with small but illuminated blue accessibility symbols. There were no wheelchair users at the show I went to, so I used this space to store my walker. It was very nice being able to keep an eye on it and have it right there when I got up to leave. Accessible toilets are clean and in two different configurations to meet different needs (different sizes and grab rail arrangements).

I would not recommend seeing wicked here. I was so excited and although the movie was amazing, the sound quality in the theater was so terrible. No surrounding sound and so quiet sometimes you could barely hear what they were saying. If you don’t have surround sound, at least turn the volume up?? It’s a musical!??? Anyway, I’m going to see wicked again at another theater because this one was so disappointing.
