One of the best Aquariums I have visited. There are 3 floors, the 2nd and 3rd floor have insects, snakes, crocodiles etc…Buying a zoo+aquarium combined ticket way early to your visit is the best option and there is a lift available and wheelchair accessible…. I highly recommend visiting especially if you are visiting with kids…

If you’re a fan of aquariums in general, you’ll probably love this place. Unfortunately one floor was closed off when we visited, but I thoroughly enjoyed the two floors we could access. This place has a great variation of fishes and reptiles, and even audience feedings of the crocodiles.
Tip: save money by buying tickets online at least two weeks in advance. We visited on a Thursday morning and it was not too crowded.
Biggest downside is the lack of information in English. Most tanks only had info in German next to them, with few exceptions.

The place is a bit small, but they have beautiful fishes, corals, jelly fish, Koi pond where you can pet them, crocodiles, turtles, some lizards and snakes. You will need only 1-2hours to see all of it, I was there with my 2 little friends and after 1,5 hours the older one was already bored. I came when they were renovating the amphibian section, so I couldn‘t see it. The receptionist wasn’t friendly at all, which is weird.
I give it 4 stars because there were not much to see, that makes it a bit pricey.

Berlin has two equally excellent zoos, one West, the other East.
Berlin’s Zoological Garden and Aquarium are situated in the Western half of the city. The two can be visited together or separately, so I’m only going to talk about the Aquarium in this review.
This historical aquarium, with vintage dinosaurs decorating its facade, has three zones for different animals; fresh and saltwater fish on the ground floor, reptiles on the first floor, and amphibians and invertebrates on the third (which was closed for reforms when I went there in July. A pity, but it’s for the best). It houses many fascinating animals, often in multi-species environments, including rarities like the Indian gharials and the only Tuataras in the EU.
This is an excellent Aquarium, well worth anyone’s time. I do recommend you get a combo ticket with the zoo, however; it makes for a more thorough experience. I thoroughly recommend it.

I was never refunded after they sold me a group of Gouramis that happened to be infected by iridovirus. It was very sad to see them die slowly (100% mortality rate and very contagious), frustrating to spend 80euros for nothing, and disapointing to insist to get my money back while being repeatly ignored by the customer service.
Months after this drama, I give up but I don’t forget.

The staff were super lovely and there’s a great selection of fish but unfortunately we bought six medaka fish here but realised something was wrong as soon as we got home. Turned out to be parasites and have already lost a first fish after only two weeks and a second one is showing serious symptoms. Now spending the same amount I spent on the fish on parasite treatments and worrying about the whole tank… We were also recommended food pellets that were far too big for the fish. If buying fish from here- quarantine them first to be sure 🙁

I have ordered two times from the site. Both times the products were exactly what I had ordered, with long expiration dates, the products matched the pictures I had seen, the packaging was careful (nothing was broken) and I didn’t have any problem at all. Especially the second time they called me to inform me that the dispatch of my order will take a few days due to lack of some products. The shipping is generally fast.
The disadvantages of the site are that the communication is in English and the prices of some products are not consistent (the second time I bought the same product as the first time, but at a higher price).
I will definitely buy again as long as the prices are low.

Ordered from these suppliers a number of times, always happy with my experience. The prices are competitive, the service is good and delivery is timely. There was a glitch in my last order where they didn’t have stock but I appreciate how quickly they got in touch and that I had a number of options to chose from to rectify the situation. I’ll continue to use them as a supplier for my rabbit food and toys.

Good communication and fast delivery. The day after I ordered I received an email, asking me if shipment in 48 hrs was acceptable. A poor experience with this company. Despite the name, Petsmenu.co.uk are based in Germany, not the UK. They sent the wrong item and requested multiple emails with pictures to establish this fact. Once they accepted their mistake, they told me they wouldn’t send the item I’d paid for, until they’d collected the mis-sent one. They then expected me to wait around all day for a delivery driver to pick up the item. This was collected on Thursday, and at time of writing the following Tuesday, I still haven’t received any word telling me they’ve sent the correct item I paid for weeks ago. Best avoided.

I came to purchase neon tetra fish for my aquarium. The employee questioned my tank size, requiring it to be above 60 liters. When I inquired about the store’s 45-liter tank housing over 100 tetra fish, she declined to sell me 6 tetra for my 40-liter tank. Im not sure if its a store rules to not sell for the customers unless some criteria is met, but maybe you should consider following the rules you made and then ask the customers to follow it.

Frequently asked questions about aquariums and fish supplies in Berlin

What types of fish are popular in Berlin aquariums?

In Berlin, aquarists often prefer freshwater fish such as neon tetras, guppies, cichlids, and goldfish. These species are not only colorful but also hardy, making them suitable for beginners. Additionally, sensitive species like discus fish are popular among experienced aquarists due to their unique beauty and challenging care requirements.

Where can I buy fish supplies in Berlin?

Berlin is home to numerous aquarium shops and pet stores that offer a wide range of fish supplies. Popular areas include Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg, where you'll find specialized shops offering everything from tanks and filters to food and decoration. Local online platforms also provide options for purchasing supplies directly from vendors.

How do I set up my first aquarium?

Setting up your first aquarium involves several crucial steps: choosing the right tank size, selecting appropriate substrates, adding filtration and heating systems, and carefully introducing plants and decor. After filling the tank with dechlorinated water, it’s vital to cycle the aquarium before introducing fish, ensuring that beneficial bacteria establish to maintain a healthy environment.

What should I consider when choosing fish for my aquarium?

When selecting fish for your aquarium, consider factors such as tank size, water parameters (such as pH and hardness), and the temperament of the fish. Ensure that species are compatible to avoid aggression and stress. Research each fish’s care requirements to ensure you can meet their needs in your specific aquarium setup.

How often should I feed my fish?

Feeding frequency depends on the type of fish you have; typically, you should feed them once or twice a day. It’s essential to provide only as much food as the fish can consume in a few minutes to avoid overfeeding, which can lead to poor water quality and health issues. Observing your fish's behavior can help determine if they are receiving enough food or if adjustments are needed.

What are the common diseases in aquarium fish?

Aquarium fish are susceptible to several common diseases, including ich (white spot disease), fin rot, and fungal infections. Regularly monitoring your fish for signs of illness, maintaining stable water conditions, and quarantining new arrivals can help minimize disease outbreaks. Immediate treatment is crucial to prevent the spread of ailments to the rest of the tank.

How can I maintain the water quality in my aquarium?

Maintaining water quality is vital for the health of your fish. Regular testing of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels is important, alongside performing frequent water changes of about 10-15% weekly. Using appropriate filtration systems and keeping the tank clean through substrate vacuuming can also help achieve optimal conditions.

What equipment do I need for a saltwater aquarium?

A saltwater aquarium requires specific equipment beyond what is typically needed for freshwater setups. Essential items include a protein skimmer, live rock, and a robust filtration system. Additionally, you'll need devices to manage salinity, temperature, and lighting, as well as a source for RO/DI water to ensure the best water quality for your marine life.

Are there specific plant species that thrive in Berlin aquariums?

Many aquarists in Berlin choose to include live plants in their tanks due to the numerous benefits they offer. Popular plant species include Anubias, Java fern, and Amazon sword, all of which are hardy and can thrive in various conditions. Additionally, planting serves to enhance the beauty of your aquarium while also helping to improve water quality by absorbing excess nutrients.

What should I do if my fish are breeding?

If your fish are breeding, it's important to prepare for potentially increased tank population. Depending on the species, you may need to separate the breeding pair or transfer fry to a dedicated tank for their safety. Proper care includes feeding high-quality food suitable for fry and ensuring they have adequate space to grow without competition from adult fish.
